Charles E. "Charlie/Jabo" Phillips

Charles E. “Charlie/Jabo” Phillips went to be with Jesus after a brief illness on September 8, 2022.
Charlie was born in Laurens County, GA to the parents of James Oliver and Mattie Davis Phillips.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Annette Black Phillips; his son, Johnny Phillips; his daughter, Mary Beth Phillips; six brothers—Major, Lamar (Son), James C. (Jiggs), Henry Earl (Pete), Jerry (Smokey), Fred; and 2 sisters, Mavis (Sister) Bellflower and Geneva (Gema) Porter.

Charlie graduated from Dexter High School in 1948. He joined the United States Air Force and served 20 years. While in the Air Force his duties included police & security and Air Force recruiter in Atlanta, GA for 6 years. While serving in the Air Force, his tour of duties took him to Guam, Vietnam and Greenland.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1971, Charlie went to work for the Federal Prison Service for 17 years and contract worker for another 12 years.

Charlie was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed going to Dexter annually for the fishing derby held at Smokey’s pond. He was not a fan of any one particular football team but was a fan of football in general. He was a family man. He loved attending the Phillips Reunion in Dexter, GA. He attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Bascom, FL. He will be missed by his many friends and surviving relatives.

Charlie is survived by a son, James A. Phillips (Denise) of Greenwood, FL; two sisters-in-law, Lillie Phillips of Springdale, AR and Shirley Clements Holland of Cadwell, GA. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; his loving caretakers and a number of nieces and nephews. Along with these survivors, he leaves behind his beloved pets, Boots and Babe.

Visitation from 4:00-6:00 PM Monday, September 12, 2022 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in Marianna, FL. James & Sikes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Graveside service will be Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Buckhorn United Methodist Church Cemetery Dudley, Ga.,at 2:00 Eastern with Dennis Waldrep officiating . Visitation will be at 1:00. Townsends Funeral Home of Dublin, GA directing.
