William Carl "Bill" Merchant, 78, of Marianna, died Monday, May 30, 2011 at his residence. A native of Jackson County, Bill was retired from the U.S. Air Force and as a vocational instructor from Sunland Center. He was a former resident of Blountstown and a avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Ellen Dasinger, a grand daughter, Anna Merchant, his parents, Noah Merchant and Margie Keel Wise and a brother, David Merchant. Survivors include his wife, Theresa Merchant of Marianna; one son, Bill Merchant and wife Katharina of Chickaloon, AK; one daughter, Ruth Brooks and husband Jimmy of Cottondale; one step son, Bill Martin and wife Regina of Sneads; four step daughters, Linda Martin and husband Douglas Parker of Marianna, Mary Flowers and husband James of Bristol, Jane Creamer and husband Ronnie of Clarksville, Cindy Fox and husband Randy of Tallahassee; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Maddox Chapel with Rev. Mildred Barfield officiating. Memorization will be by cremation with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 10:30 till funeral time Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Maddox Chapel. If desired, in lieu of flowers, contributions maybe made to the America Heart Association.
