James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Wankard Lucius Pooser, 91, of Marianna died March 11, 2008 at Jackson Hospital following a brief illness. W.L. was born May10, 1916, the first of eleven children of Wankard and Maude Pooser. He was a life time Baptist serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a recent member of First Baptist Church in Marianna. He was a remarkable man with a long and distinguished career. He was a school teacher at the age of 17. He attended The University of Florida and Florida State University. He served in WWll in New Guinea, rising from the rank of Private to the rank of Major, later retiring as a Lt. Colonel from the Army Reserves. He completed law school at Syracuse University in New York and served as attorney in private practice for over 50 years, being a member of both the New York and Florida Bar. He retired and moved to Florida in 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Adele F. Pooser and by both his parents. Also three brothers, John Wamer Pooser, Charles Henry Pooser, and James Elliot Pooser; three sisters, Willie Maude Reeves, Mary Frances Ratzlaff, and Martha Sims. He is survived by one brother, Lucius B. "Cap" Pooser and wife, Joyce; three sisters, Sallie E. New and husband, Bob, Kathryn Ross, and Annie L. Scoot; two brothers-in-law, Buford Sims and Crawford Reeves; numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 13 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Rev. L. B. "Cap" Pooser officiating. Burial will follow in Pope Cemetery in Sneads with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends Thursday at 1 p.m. until service time at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to The Gideon's International P. O.
