Violet Jarrard Ray, 76, passed away at her home September 30, 2021, surrounded by her devoted family. Mrs. Ray was born on October 6, 1944. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Evie Blackman, her husband's James Jarrard and William Ray, her three brothers Aubrey Blackman, Oscar Blackman, and Charles Blackman and her two sisters Lula Alday and Pearl Shoupe Spooner.
Violet was born in the Alliance Community but grew up in Cypress. She worked at Sunland as a Dietitian Aide and then as a Human Services Worker until she retired. She enjoyed working with the clients and had a heart for service. She loved to cook and there were many home-made meals, desserts, and family fish fries. Her home was always filled with laughter, good food, and fellowship. After her children were grown she started her own Mary Kay Cosmetics business and several other home business ventures. She enjoyed helping customers with their make-up palette. She loved going to the beach, sun tanning, fishing, and reading a good article on cooking. She was also fond of reading the bible, listening to gospel music, and going to gospel sings.
She is survived by her step-son, Jay Jarrard, her daughters, Bobbie Brock, Sarah Scott, Betty Roberts and husband, Steve, Janice Toole, and husband Mitchell. Mrs Violet was known as “Memaw” or “Meme” by her seven grandchildren, Dan Jarrard, Jason Jarrard, Whitney Mathis, Jacob Brock, Logan Westerling, Dylan Toole, and Andrew Toole. She is survived by nine great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 9 am and Violet’s home going service will be at 10 am Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with pastor Gino Mayo officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Cypress Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing..
