Verna Sue Martin

Verna Sue Martin, 96, of Greenwood died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at her home in Greenwood. Born in Grenada, MS., She was a graduate of Delta State University in Cleveland, MS, Mrs. Martin had resided in Jackson County since 1953, she was a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and retired as an educator with the Jackson County School System in 1980. She was preceded in death by her husband Sidney Martin and her parents, J. L. and Alma Parham Carver. Survivors include one daughter, Suzanne NeSmith and husband Jimmy of Greenwood; two sons, Sidney L. Martin and wife Connie of Bristol, Robert R. Martin and wife Mary Frances of Greenwood; two sisters, Mavis Elmore of Greenwood and Ray Beard of Memphis, Tenn.; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one great great grandson and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10 am Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Maddox Chapel with Rev. John Woodrow and Rev. Ronnie Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Methodist Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox directing. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Friday, July 15, 2011 at Maddox Chapel.
