Vera Genelle Matthews Glass

d. December 27, 2012

James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Vera Genelle Matthews Glass, born February 17, 1947, passed away peacefully at her home in Chattahoochee on December 27, 2012 with her loving family by her side. Genelle is now in her Heavenly Home with the loving father of their children, William E. "Bill" Glass; her parents, Sidney & Claudia Matthews; her sister, Wynelle Etheridge and her niece Melinda Matthews. Genelle truly loved the Lord, her family, her church and church family. She always put others ahead of herself and most importantly her faithfulness and works for her Lord and Savior came before anything else. Genelle was raised in the Dellwood Community and enjoyed being an active member of Sneads First Assembly of God Church. She attended Greenwood High School where she was a "Greenwood Dragons" cheerleader, Fall Festival queen, and she liked to joke and say she was in the "Top 14" of her class of "14". She graduated from high school in 1965 and immediately began her work career. She worked at Citizen's Bank for several years, as well as Daffin's Department Store, and was then hired by the State of Florida as a Clerk Typist Specialist. She retired from Forensic Office Services at Florida State Hospital after 33 ½ years. She married Bill on January 2, 1969 and they had two children together; Angela Glass Locke (Chad) and Amy Michelle Glass, all of Sneads. Genelle's pride and joy were her two granddaughters, Lauren Genna Locke and Lindsey Elizabeth Locke. Her children and grandchildren were the reason she held on as long as she could, but the Lord saw that it was time to add a new member to His Glorious Angelic Choir and chose Genelle to join. Genelle is survived by her children and son-in-law and granddaughters. She is also survived by a brother, David Eugene Matthews (Barbara); brother-in-law, Donald Etheridge all of the Dellwood community; brother-in-law, Carl Glass (Helene) of Chattahoochee, sister-in-law, Mary Bass of Bristol; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 from 5-7 CST at Sneads First Assembly of God. Services will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at 2 p.m. CST at Sneads First Assembly of God Church with interment at Welcome Assembly of God Cemetery on Welcome Church Road with Pastor Juno Douglas and Pastor Jack Howell officiating. Flowers are appreciated. Memorial contributions may be made to Sneads First Assembly of God Building Fund, 2062 River Road, Sneads FL. 32460, or Big Bend Hospice 1723 Mahan Center Blvd. Tallahassee, FL 32308 in remembrance of Genelle.
