Vera Cutchins Holmes, 99, of Cantonment passed away peacefully after a short illness, Saturday, July 11, 2015 in Pensacola to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Holmes had resided with her daughter and son-in-law in Cantonment, FL. for the past four years. She was a retired Food Service Employee with the Jackson County School System, a long time member of the Eastern Star and was Baptist by Faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Coley B. Holmes; a son, Charlie B. Holmes; brothers, Carl and Olin Cutchins; sisters, Myrtle Justice and Earie Braxton. Survivors include her daughter, Mildred Holmes Lyle and husband Michael of Cantonment; step-son, Bobby Gene Holmes and wife Mary of Cedar Springs, GA; a sister, Elizabeth Cutchins Finch and husband Ronnie, brothers, Orin and wife Rachael, Charles and wife Inell, Ray Cutchins and wife Judy all of Cottondale; grandchildren, James Lyle and wife Becky, Jason Lyle, Dale and Chip Holmes; Toni Holmes Watkins; five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Rev. Robert Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until funeral time Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Maddox Chapel. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the entire staff and residents of Arcadia. Asked to serve as pallbearers are David Cutchins, Donald Cutchins, Ronald Deese, Mike Porter, Doyle Pumphrey and Charlie Tharp.
