Tony H. Comerford

Tony Comerford, age 76, of Marianna, Florida passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, August 25, 2024. He was born on March 8, 1948, in Cypress, Florida to John Phillip Comerford, Sr. and Mattie Owens Comerford. He lived a life filled with fun, adventure, and years of hard work. After attending public schools in Jackson County, he was drafted into the U. S. Army where he served honorably from 1968 to 1970. After returning home from his military service, he worked for Baxter Asphalt and various construction companies in the area. Eventually he relocated to Bartow, Florida where he started and owned a tanker truck transport business. Later he worked for and retired from CF Industries, located at the Port of Tampa, Florida. 

While living in the Bartow/Mulberry area, Tony met and married the love of his life, Katheryn Willis. They enjoyed 26 years of blissful marriage before Katheryn sadly passed away in 2001. Shortly thereafter, Tony retired and returned to Jackson County where he immersed himself in his favorite pastime, fishing the lakes and rivers where he grew up. Other hobbies he enjoyed were riding his motorcycles and four-wheeling the backroads and farmlands in and around his old stomping grounds. 

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mattie Comerford, his wife, Katheryn, brothers, Ray Comerford and John Robert Comerford, sisters, Lizzie Comerford Barnes, Edna Comerford Robinson, Evelyn Comerford Kelley, Erma Comerford Hansford, and Bessie Mae Comerford Daniels; and brothers-in-law, Milford Truette of Marianna, FL and Bobby Joe Qualls of Sparta, TN. 

He is survived by and leaves wonderful memories with brothers, Angus Comerford of Clermont, Florida, Pete Comerford (Carlyon) of Grand Ridge, FL, James Comerford (Linda) and Steve Comerford (Norma) all of Marianna, FL; sisters, Mary Adams of Cypress, FL, JoAnn Snyder (Bob) of Marianna, FL, Betty Qualls of Cookeville, TN, and Donna Rister of Marianna, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; trusted friends and fishing buddies, Jerry Ray of Grand Ridge, FL and Charlie Johnson of Fort Meade, FL, and Matthew Williams, who was “Mr. Tony’s” helper and neighborhood buddy. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you and appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Jackson Hospital, Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center and Emerald Coast Hospice for taking such great care of our brother Tony. And a heartfelt thank you for the prayers, thoughts and acts of kindness provided by family and friends. Tony will be greatly missed by all who loved him. 

Per Tony’s request, there will be no services.
