Thomas Richard Zurenda

Thomas Richard Zurenda, 54, U. S. Navy retired of Marianna passed away Friday, June 17, 2011 at his home surrounded with his loving family that he loved and cherished. A native of the Town of Porter, New York, Tom graduated from Wilson High School in Wilson, New York. He was a former U. S. Army veteran that proudly served with the 3rd. Infantry at Arlington National Cemetery and a retired U. S. Navy veteran having served with U. S. Naval Intelligence at the Pentagon. He had resided in Marianna for the past six years where he was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church and a volunteer member for Guardian Ad Litem and Covenant Hospice of Marianna. He was the proud guardian for his brother-in-law, Ted Thielker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen P. Zurenda, Sr, and Patricia Ann Schultz Zurenda Froman. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Thielker Zurenda of Marianna; three sons, David Zurenda of Millington, TN, Todd Zurenda and wife Amy of Herndon, VA. and Nick Zurenda of Marianna; one daughter, Whitney Zurenda of Cottondale; four brothers, Stephen P. Zurenda, Jr. and wife Gail of Inwood, WV, Dan Zurenda and wife Sally of Black River, NY, Paul Zurenda of Binghamton, NY, John Zurenda and wife, Barb of Waynesville, NC; one sister, Debra Ackley and husband Don of Hammondport, NY; two grandchildren, McKenzie and Draydon and a special friend he called Dad, Ron Quiett. Graveside funeral services will be 2 pm Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Barrancas National Cemetery at NAS Pensacola, Florida with full military honors with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Monday, June 20, 2011 at Maddox Chapel. A Service of Remembrance will be at 10 am Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Marianna.
