The world lost a beloved mother, daughter, and sister Tanya Katricia (Roberts) Owens on May 4, 2022, after a battle with Cancer. She was 62 years old.
It would be wrong to say that Tanya lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Tanya stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly looks like. There was no quit in Tanya. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight.
Tanya was born in Key West, Florida on May 31, 1959. She claims to have learned everything she knew from her loving parents. Tanya attended Grand Ridge School and graduated in the class of 1977. And later received her Associate of Arts at Chipola College.
Tanya worked at the Jackson County Floridan Newspaper in the Advertising Department for over 20 years. She was dedicated to her customers and worked around the clock to get the job done. Tanya enjoyed getting out into the community and watching Jackson County grow and prosper.
Tanya unconditionally and unselfishly loved her children and supported them all her life through the many highs and difficulties of their lives. She also made it her mission to care for her family.
Tanya was passionate about her faith and a faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church all of her life.
In her free time, she enjoyed traveling with family. She looked forward to her annual trip with her mother and sister. She also took a mother/daughter trip once a year. Tanya enjoyed the beach and loved to go camping. During the Summer, you could always find Tanya and her sister on the sand in Mexico Beach. When Tanya splurged on herself, she could be found with her sister shutting down the Governor Square Mall.
She especially loved her role as a MeMe to all her grandchildren. Tanya loved to spend quality time with them and be a part of what they were doing. She proudly doted over them all and spoiled them every chance she got.
To say that her family and friends will miss her greatly is an understatement. Between the many lives she touched selling advertisements for the Jackson County Floridian, Tanya was a well-respected and cherished colleague, as well as, a loyal friend to many people.
It was said Tanya was unselfish to a fault. Often putting the needs and well-being of family and friends above herself.
Tanya was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Roberts; paternal grandparents, John and Mary Roberts; and maternal grandparents, Doug and Mary Alford.
She is survived by her two children, Derrick Harrell (Melissa); Katricia Edenfield (Mac); four grandchildren, Brayden Harrell, Zackery Edenfield, Jake Edenfield, and Jessie Harrell; mother, Lola Nell Roberts; sister, Cherie Carpenter (Billy); special nieces and nephew, Crystal McNeill (Daniel), Jenna Downs (Jared), Bubba Carpenter (Jolie); and seven great-nephews and nieces (with one more on the way); special family and friends, Eddie Redding, Tina May, Sandra Harrell, Rhonda Edenfield, Laverne Dunham, Caitlyn Zeh, and Kay Neel.
