Mary Sue Barber (Susie), 72, passed from this life on Saturday, May 16, 2015, with loved ones by her side. A long-time educator in the Jackson County School system, Susie retired from Golson Elementary after teaching 28 years where she shaped the lives of countless young children. Susie had a bigger than life personality, she lived and loved out loud. She loved being outside, whether it was at the farm, at the lake, or working in her yard at home. Susie was born on March 14, 1943 to the late Aubrey and Marie Hudson in Quitman , Georgia . She and her family later moved to Florida where she attended public school and was crowned Miss Cottondale during her teenage years. After high school, she attended the University of South Florida where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education. In 1963, she married the love of her life, Glen Barber. Glen and Susie shared 51 years of love and laughter, he was her best friend, constant companion and when her health failed her, he was her compassionate caregiver. Susie is survived by her husband, Glen Barber of Marianna, her son, Jay B. Barber and wife, Heather along with their children, Stas and Luke Barber all of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by her brother, Steve Hudson and wife JoAnn of Alpharetta, GA; nieces, Carrie Kennedy of Marietta GA, Joanna Chancy and husband, Mark of Atlanta, GA, and Melinda Barber of Marianna; nephews Bryan Hudson and wife, Jackie of Tallahassee, FL, John Hudson and wife, Erin of Kennesaw, GA, and Ray Barber of Arlington, TX. Susie will also be missed dearly by her precious little dog "Miss P." Services will be Tuesday, May 19, at Eleven O'clock in the morning at the First United Methodist Church in Marianna, FL with Reverend Bill Elwell and Reverend Ronnie Wright officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Disposition will be by cremation with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
