Susan Walden

 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Susan Walden, age 86, of Grand Ridge, Florida, who left us peacefully February 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Susan was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her legacy will live on through her cherished family and the community she served. 

Born on April 18, 1938, Susan dedicated her life to her family and her business, Walden’s Grocery, which she proudly owned and operated in Grand Ridge since 1955. Her grocery store became a cornerstone of the community, known for its warm atmosphere and the personal touch she offered to every customer. In addition to her entrepreneurial spirit, Susan also had a fulfilling career at Florida State Hospital, from which she retired after many years of dedicated service.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John J. Walden, with whom she shared 40 wonderful years; her daughter, Sandra Walden; her parents, Serena and Gilbert McDonald, as well as five sisters and one brother. Susan is survived by her two daughters, Velma Wilson and husband, Don, Brenda Sears; granddaughter, Jerri Anna Brown and husband, David, two grandsons, Wade Wilson and wife, Christina, Devin Davis and fiancé, Kaitlyn Christian. She was a proud grandmother to five great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons, a cherished aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and a friend to many. 

 In addition to her family, Susan leaves behind a legacy of kindness and community spirit that will be remembered by all who knew her. She was a friend to many and a source of support and encouragement to those in need.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her granddaughter-in-law, Kaitlyn Christian, for the exceptional care and comfort she provided during Susan's final days. Her compassion and support made a significant difference and will always be remembered. 

A celebration of Susan's life will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 10, 2025, at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Rev. Gary Gable officiating.  Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. 

Family and friends are invited to gather at 10:00 AM until time of service to share their memories and honor the remarkable woman she was.
