Susan “Susie” Phillips Burns, 57, of Chattahoochee, Florida died Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Florida Capital Hospital in Tallahassee.
She was born July 11, 1965 to the late Tommy and Mary Phillips. Susie and her husband, Jeff made a life together in Chattahoochee and had one son, John Thomas Burns. Although she only had one biological son, there were many friends of John and soldiers of the 144th who lovingly referred to her as “Mama Susie”. She loved spoiling her family and soldiers of the 144th. Susie was a huge FSU Seminoles football fan. She could often be found with her 4-legged son, Zues enjoying a game or crafting a verity of items. Susie was always a giver, she loved to spoil, give to and love on anyone she got the opportunity to. Even if that was sharing her popcorn with Jeff's dog, Bo Bo. She was always the first to offer help or donations to local charities, especially those that benefited animals.
Traveling was one of her favorite pastimes. Her favorite destinations were the beach, especially Mexico Beach, a cruise ship or the occasional trip to the casino. Each year she made it a priority to attend a Women’s Retreat in Lake Eufaula which she thoroughly enjoyed. When she needed some entertainment at home, she would visit the Bingo Hall.
Susie is survived by her husband, Jeff Burns; son, John Burns and wife, Jennifer; grandchildren, Lailyn Medley, Jaythen Medley, Kylie Burns and Tobias Burns; sister, Cathy Scott; niece, Misty Hale; nephew, Johnny Patterson; neighbors and dear friends, Stormy and Gerald along with a host of other family and friends who loved her dearly.
The family would like to invite you to a Celebration of Life at Lake Seminole in Sneads on Friday, April 14th, 2023 from 1:00 to 6:00 PM (CST). We are going to eat, play music, and tell stories of the fond memories we had and the beautiful soul that she was.
