Sumi Hanstine

March 10, 1979 — March 14, 2023

Sumi Hanstine, 44, of Marianna, Florida died Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Sumi Hanstine was born March 10, 1979 to Nancy Duso in Tri-City, California. Sumi received her bachelor's degree in education and taught elementary school for ten years, eight of them here in Marianna. She truly loved and enjoyed teaching her students, speaking encouragement into their lives. With a love of learning and kindness, she shared it with teachers as well as her students. In 2001, Sumi became a Christ follower and joyfully served her King. Her biggest desire was to hear those words, “Well done good and faithful servant”. She served in the children's ministry at Rivertown Community Church (RCC) and served alongside teams that served our community.

On January 30, 2006, she was married to David Hanstine and together they built a beautiful life. They served in church together and loved their family dearly. As Sumi faced life's challenges, she continued to put God first. She believed that we love because he first loved us. That belief is what sustained her through the good times and the times of pain and sorrow. Her source of strength was Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery Sheehan; and father, Richard Duso.

Sumi is survived by her husband, David Hanstine; children, Savana Hanstine, Shyla Hanstine, Shelby Hanstine, Tag Hanstine; granddaughter, Ammani Grace Hanstine; mother, Nancy Duso; Siblings, Tanaka Paton, Andrew Duso, Rachel Dawson; in-laws, Tom and Pauline Cotter; sisters-in-law, Kiki Hanstine, Bette Hanstine, Stephani Smith; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Monday, March 20, 2023 at RCC in Marianna with James & Sikes Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until the time of service.

A private family burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
