Sonny Basford

James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Julian Broward "Sonny" Basford, 63, of Grand Ridge, died Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Sonny was born July 16, 1951 in Marianna and resided most of his life in Grand Ridge on the family farm. Sonny held many jobs during his lifetime but most enjoyed those times he spent in Law Enforcement. He served both the Marianna Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. He retired from the Sheriff's Office in 2011. Since his retirement Sonny had enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, hunting, wood working and gardening. He is preceded in death by his father, Broward Basford. Survivors include his wife and best friend of 32 years, Nancy; one son, Jerry and his wife, Stephanie of Grand Ridge and his two grandchildren, Jackson and Emily Ann Basford; his mother, Una Pope Basford of Grand Ridge; two brothers, Leland and his wife, Jennell of Cypress and Marcus and his wife, Beverly of Grand Ridge and many very special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2015 at Dellwood Baptist Church with Steve Benefield officiating. Interment will follow in Cow Pen Pond Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends and family, Friday, May 1, 2015 from 1p.m. until funeral time at Dellwood Baptist Church.
