Shirley Pelham Hare

Shirley Pelham Hare, age 81, of Sneads, Florida died Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Chipola Health & Rehab Center.

She was born and raised in Sneads, FL. She was a proud graduate of Sneads High School and later attended Chipola College. She worked at Florida State Hospital and as a cosmetologist in her shop, Shear Delight Beauty Salon for many years. She enjoyed going to church, going on trips, and shopping, often at a thrift store, trying to find a good sale. She enjoyed the simple things, and cherished spending time with her family and her friends. Shirley truly loved life. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. A true woman of God, she used any opportunity to spread the Gospel.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Brady and Maggie McKinnie; husband and father of her children, Harold Powell; husband, James “Buddy” Pelham (married 1973-2005); husband, Doug Hare (married 2018-2021); children, Kenneth Jake Powell I, James “Jay” Pelham; and her siblings, Tessie Poole (David), Essie Baxter (Coy Lee), Margaret Robbirds (Woody), Jerry McKinnie (Maria), Mack Ryals McKinnie.

She is survived by her children, Richard Powell (Jennifer), Denise Rzycki (Greg); daughter-in-law, Rachel Powell; grandchildren, David Whitfield (Shanae), Kenneth Jake Powell II (Nikki), Maggie Powell, Bryan Powell, Josh Hardin (Mayra), Blake Hardin (Sophia), Tara Hardin; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Oscar McKinnie (Katie); and sister-in-law, Elizabeth McKinnie. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, March 24, 2025, at Salem Wesleyan Church with Reverends Roger Meyers and Rafael Bellini officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Salem Wesleyan Church.
