Sheila Faye Nelson, 75, of Vernon, Florida passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024, in Panama City, FL. She was born in Montgomery, AL to the late Clifton and Frances Aillen Henley on June 9, 1948. Sheila retired from Fountain Correctional Institute with 20+ years of service has a Clerk Typist III. She volunteered at The Blake Assisted Living, then became an employee up until she got sick on Easter, April 2023. Sheila loved working there with the residents, doing activities with them. She had lived with her daughter, Marie, for the last two years.
She loved GOD first, then her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking/baking, especially around the holidays. She was kind, loving and caring to the people who she met. She enjoyed going to Todd Herendeen Theatre where she watched Todd impersonate Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, Roy Orbinson and let us not forget, Elvis Presley whom she really enjoyed.
Sheila was preceded in her death by her parents; Marlin W. Nelson, Carlos Casey, stepson, Rory “Rabbitt” Nelson, and grandson, Shane Nelson. She is survived by sons, Dale (Kathy) Nelson of Montgomery, AL, Micheal (Stephanie) Nelson of Bradenton, FL, Barney (Mary) Nelson of Robertsdale, AL; daughter Marie (Jim) Nelson of Vernon, FL. She had 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, sisters, Janice (Ronnie) Tyler; and Dorothy (Johnny) Vegas of Montgomery, AL; nieces and nephews, as well as extended family.
A Celebration of Life service will be 12:00 PM, Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Todd Herendeen Theatre in Panama City Beach, with Todd Herendeen officiating, and whoever would like to speak will have an opportunity.
