Sara Jo McMullian, age 90, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Sara was born on November 14, 1932 in Malone, Florida to Joseph J. “Joe” Johnson and Neta “Ditty” Johnson. She grew up in this community and graduated from Malone High School in 1949. She attended Chipola Junior College and later transferred to, what was then, Troy State Teachers College in Troy, Alabama. She graduated from Troy with a BS Degree in 1952.
Sara taught in the Jackson County School System for several years. She left this position to become a full-time mother to three sons. She was a member of Lovedale Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, President of the WMU, and was on many committees over the years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Lloyd Earl "Jr" McMullian Jr.; her parents; and one son, Joseph Earl McMullian “Butch”.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce McMullian and wife, Nola; Greg McMullian and wife, Beverly; five grandchildren, Ashtin McMullian, Desiree Baggett (Bud), Che Trejo (Laura), Jessica McMullian, and April Melvin (Philip); ten great-grandchildren, a sister Veneeda Jordan, three nephews and their families.
Services will be 11 AM Monday, July 3, 2023 at Lovedale Baptist Church with Pastor Thomas Anderson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
