Sammy Railey Efurd, Jr.

Sammy Railey Efurd, Jr., 81, was born in Columbus, Georgia to Samuel Railey Efurd, Sr. and Virginia Pless Efurd on July 3, 1943. He was raised in Eufaula, Alabama, and after graduation, he followed a career in law enforcement by first serving his stint in the United States Army as Military Police and finally as a Deputy Sheriff in Jackson County Florida. He passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Sammy was preceded in death by his son, Samuel Railey Efurd, III; his parents; and his in-laws Bill and Reba Henley.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marthe Henley Efurd; his four-legged buddy, Manny; son, James Efurd (fiancée, Celina Delgado); sister, Jeannie Fussell (Jim); several in-laws and outlaws; special nephew, Walter Henley and family; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great-nephews; adopted granddaughter, Ance from Latvia and her family; and two special Chipola softball players from Brazil, Barbara and Yochee.

He was of Baptist faith and a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Marianna. He led a very rewarding and interesting life, did not mind hard work and there was never a dull moment. He always had a quick comeback and the last word. He was a tough man, a proud father and, a loving husband.

HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.

Private interment will be in Clayton, Alabama at a later date.
