It is with great sadness we announce our loving wife, mother, aunt, and sister, Sally Louise Jowers, passed away peacefully, with her loving husband, Henry "Ed" Jowers, by her side on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at the age of 83. Early that morning, she was ushered to heaven to be with Jesus and many family and friends.
Sally, the youngest of four children, was born on February 23, 1940, to Marcus and Sallie Cooper in West Palm Beach, FL.
Sally graduated from Florida State University in 1958 and began her long career and passion as an educator. She has touched the lives of students in Florida, Georgia, New Mexico, and the Philippines. Her career spanned more than 30 years, taking time away to raise her children, Amy and Brett.
While teaching in Albuquerque, NM, she met a young Air Force Lieutenant, Ed. After a quick courtship, she married the love of her life, Ed, April 29, 1967. Although the ceremony was during a dust storm, tumbleweeds and all, the two began a life of living and traveling with the Air Force that included Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Japan. After leaving the military, despite being a diehard Seminole, she moved to Gainesville, while Ed continued his education. During their time in Gainesville, they brought their first child, Amy Melissa, into the world. They then settled in Live Oak, FL, where their second child, Brett Ashley, was born. Through the years, they left Live Oak to follow Ed's career, to Madison, FL, and finally settled in Marianna, FL, in 1985, where they stayed and retired after their respective careers. They celebrated their 56th anniversary on April 29, 2023. In addition to being an educator, Sally enjoyed sewing, antiquing, shopping, spending time with Ed, Amy, and Brett, and taking mini vacations with her two brothers and sister and their respective spouses.
Sally was predeceased by her mother, Sallie Cooper, who she lost at the young age of eight; her father, Marcus Cooper; brother, Bill Cooper (Marie); sister, Jane Inglesbe and her husband, Allen; Sharon Cooper, (spouse of brother, Larry), and the many furry companions she loved and with which she found so much joy.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Ed; children, Amy and Brett; brother, Larry Cooper; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation and celebration of life service will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church of Marianna. The visitation will begin at 1 PM (cst), in the Wesley Center, with the service, following at 2 PM (cst) at the First United Methodist Church of Marianna. In lieu of flowers, and to honor Sally's life passion for education, donations may be made to the Jackson County Education Foundation. Please mail donations to P.O. Box 1138, Marianna, FL 32447.
