Rubin C. Mercer, 71, of Dellwood went home to be with the Lord, Monday, January 19, 2009 at his residence following a long courageous battle with cancer. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, Mr. Mercer was the founder and owner of Mercer's Paint and Body Shop in Marianna since 1973, where he worked until his illness. He was a longtime member of Cypress Community Church in Cypress, where he was Sunday School Superintendent. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Grady Mercer and Queen Ester Williams Mercer; his brother, Colon Mercer. Survivors include his wife, Frieda Mears Mercer; his son, Shane Mercer and wife, Sheila; one grandson, Shannon Mercer and wife, Kimberly, one granddaughter, Shelaina and husband, Dr. Jeremy Lewis; one great-grandson, Eli Mercer; two great granddaughters, Savannah and Lila Lewis; two brothers, Alva Mercer of Dellwood and Doug Mercer of Cypress; two sisters, Jearldene Hamilton of Grand Ridge and Judy Mercer of Dothan; a host of loving nieces and nephews, many other close family members and a host of dear friends. Funeral service will be 10 am Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Welcome Assembly of God Church, 6784 Messer Road, Grand Ridge with Revs, Thomas Batts and Jeff Gnann officiating interment will follow at Cypress Grove Assembly of God Church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Welcome Assembly of God Church.
