James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Roy W. Baldwin went home to be with the Lord on July 23, 2015, just short of his 97th birthday. He was born on August 2, 1918, in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, and lived in the same county for 83 years. He moved to Marianna, FL, in 2001, to be near his children, and was a member of Marianna First Assembly of God Church. He graduated from high school in Wainwright, OK, and later entered Draughan's School of Business in Muskogee. He joined the Navy at the start of WWII and spent 33 of his 37 months in the South Pacific. While on the island of Tinian, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. Following his discharge, he entered Civil Service at the Veterans Administration Regional Office. He started as a File Clerk and retired in 1977 as Section Chief of the Adjudication Div. where he received a commendation for Section Chief of the Year in 1976. He became a Christian at the age of 14 and has been a member of the Assemblies of God since 1940. He served the Lord in ministry as a deacon, song leader, Sunday School Superintendent, and teacher for over 50 years. Roy impacted the lives of hundreds with his caring, compassionate words of encouragement and his intercessory prayer. His joy in life was loving Jesus and loving his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, C. M. and Mattie Baldwin, brothers, Floyd, Clyde, Claud, Vander, and Glen, and sisters, Mary Hansen, Myrtle Ray, Alice Compton, and Reva Davis. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Leon Evelyn, one daughter, Kathy Potter and husband Stephen, and one son, David Baldwin and wife Susan all of Marianna, three granddaughters, Stacia Spencer and husband Vince of Chipley, Florida, Alecia Corbin and husband Michael of Marianna, and Jennifer Baldwin of Atlanta, Georgia, and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015 at First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Stephen Potter officiating. Private interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
