Roy Douglas age 74 of Vernon , FL went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 20, 2010. He was born and raised in Vernon , FL. He was the son of Gordon and Pearl Douglas. He was married to Marie Douglas, a faithful companion for over 56 years. He was a minister of the Gospel by call and a butcher by trade. He worked many years in the grocery store business starting out at Port St Joe, Jitney Jungle in Marianna, Poor Boys Grocery in Alford, and Vernon , FL. He began his ministry in 1958 as a youth minister at Graceville Community Church . The thrust of his ministry began with a 6 wks revival at Bascom Assembly of God under Sis. James. He pastored Alford Assembly of God from 1959-1969, pastored Vernon Assembly from 1969-1979. Founded and pastored Vernon Evangelistic Church from 1980-1991. He had many loved ones and many, many friends through the years. Survivors include his wife, Marie; one son, Rev. Juno Douglas and wife, Aimee of Sneads; two daughters, Linda Cook and husband, Bobo Lexie, Lecia Mitchell and husband, Billy Joe all of Vernon; five grandchildren Johnathan Cook and wife April, Douglas Cook, Jordan Mitchell and wife Sheena, Bradley Douglas and Valaree Douglas; four great grandchildren, Jacob Mitchell, Emma Mitchell, Sarah Mitchell and Hayden Cook; Two sisters, Irene Brewer and Marlene Donaldson. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Vernon Evangelistic Church in Vernon , Fl. with Rev. Leon Jenkins and Rev. Juno Douglas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Vernon Evangelistic Church,Hwy. 79 3119 Main Street) in Vernon.
