He was a native of Maine but came to Florida in 1946 white serving in the US Army. He was a graduate of Stetson University in Deland, Fl and has been a Southern Baptist Pastor for over 50 years in Central Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife Jessie Slone Safford in February, 2007. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Safford King and husband Rev. Lonnie King of Marianna; Faith Wasserkrug of Hemet, Ca; one son, Rev. Richard D. Safford & wife Vernette of Port Aransas, Tx.; two brothers, Frank Safford of Jacksonville, Fl and Kenneth Safford of Manchester, New Hampshire; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Eastside Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Canada, Rev. Richard Safford and Rev. Lonnie King officiating. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by Sneads American Legion Post 241. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel will direct. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church. Contributions may be made to the Eastside Baptist Church Building Fund or The Florida Baptist Children's Home.
