James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Rebecca Stevens McGill, born December 5, 1921, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at the age of 91, at Jackson Hospital with her family by her side. Becky was a native of Roanoke, Alabama but had lived in Marianna since 1952. She graduated from Chambers County High School and Southern Union College and attended Jacksonville Teachers College in Jacksonville, Alabama where she received a life long teachers certificate. She returned to Chambers County High School where she taught for 10 years. Becky married James H. McGill from Wadley, Alabama prior to his leaving for Germany during World War II. They were married almost 62 years. "Mc", as she affectionally called him, preceded her in death on May 17, 2005. Mc and Becky came to Marianna to accept jobs at Chipola Junior College. Becky served as secretary to several presidents during her 30 years at Chipola. Becky has been a member of the First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She was a pianist for the Dean Skagg's Sunday School Class and served in various women's programs including the Guild. Becky participated in many organizations while living in Marianna. She volunteered for the American Red Cross for 20 years. She also volunteered for the American Cancer Society and Covenant Hospice for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cora McJunkins and Cleve Stevens, a brother, Tom Stevens and a sister, Sarah Brazell. She is survived by her son, James Stevens McGill and Kay Turner of Phenix City, AL. One daughter, Pam McGill Sims and her husband Danny and their four sons (who were the loves of her life) and wives, Bryan and Dawn, Will and Megan, Rick and Janell and Jon and Lindsey, Also surviving are her precious great-grandchildren, Cohen, Abby, Tessa, Kambria, and Mason. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Bill Stevens of Irvine, CA and her sister, Evelyn Gibson, of Monticello, MS and two sister-in-laws and their families, Dean McGill of Hueytown, AL and Wilma McGill of Auburn, AL. Her family will greet friends and relatives at the First United Methodist Church at 10 a.m., Friday, August 16, 2013 prior to the service at 11:00. Internment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Marianna with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna, Florida directing. In lieu of flowers, it is Becky's request that donations be made to First United Methodist Church or Covenant Hospice.
