Ray Brendemuehl, 93, died November 22, 2015, in Marianna. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at home.
Ray was born February 24, 1922, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he lived until he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941. He served for four years on the USS Natoma Bay in the Pacific during WWII. After which he returned to Milwaukee to marry, then complete his education at Purdue University and Iowa State University where he was awarded a Ph.D. in Soil Science. His only career move was to the U.S. Forest Service Research Station in Marianna, Florida in 1957. He rose through the ranks and retired as Director in 1988. After retirement, he was very active with family visits, travel, and multiple cultural organizations. He was a long term member of the Lion's Club, elder Emeritus of the First Presbyterian Church of Marianna, PTA President, President of the Caverns Golf Association, and very involved with Habitat for Humanity.
Ray was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Elsie Brendemuehl.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Brendemuehl, and three children: Dr. Judy Brendemuehl of Logan, West Virginia; Dr. Jim Brendemuehl of Auburn, Alabama; Robby Brendemuehl and wife, Connie of Birmingham, Alabama. In addition, survivors include grandchildren Gabe Rushden of Charleston, West Virginia, Jamie Brendemuehl and Stacey Brendemuehl of Birmingham, Alabama; and brother Roger Brendemuehl of Deloitte, Wisconsin.
The family gathered for a private celebration of his life, and would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
