Quillon "Jiggs" Yon

" Jiggs" Yon, 74 of Jacksonville, Fl. went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 8:55 am while surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on January 25, 1935 in Grand Ridge, Fl to his parents, Cletus C. and Sara E. Yon (predeceased). He his survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Nell D. Yon; daughter, Robyn Newman and husband Rick; son, Kevin Yon and wife Terri; sister, Darthy Lewis; grandchildren, Ashley, Sydney, Samantha and Lauren; borther/sister-in-law, Jerry and Linda Gilley; sister in law, Marjorie Yon; many nieces, nephews and close friends. Mr. Yon served his country in the Army National Guard. He was a brick mason by trade, a 50 yr. member of Brick Layers Local No. 2 Union Hall, and retired from Stebbins Engineering as Superintendent in 1996. He was a very active member of Harvest Ministries where he served as Deacon for many years; he coordinated programs such as Harvester Seniors and a Food Service Ministry. He served as Sunday School teacher, Usher/Greeter, Visitation Svc., building maintenance and repairs, etc. He had many hobbies including singing, fishing, harmonica, vacationing with family and friends. He was passionate about his farm in Grand Ridge where he spent many hours and a boatload of money on his tractor raising cows and complaining about weeds. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. CDT Friday, August 7, 2009 at Shady Grove Pentecostal Church in Grand Ridge with Revs. Dr, Thomas Batts, Orren Simpson, Gary Cook and Bascom Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends Friday, August 7, at 3 p.m. CDT, one hour prior to funeral time at the church. Pallbearers will include, Charles Goodwin, Brian Lewis, Gregory Lewis, Jeremy Lewis, Rodney Lewis and Gary Yon. www.jamesandsikesfuneralhomes.com
