James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel 4278 Lafayette Street Marianna, Fl 32446 850.482.2332 850.526.4143 FAX www.jamesandsikesfuneralhomes.com Peggy Alene Hughes, 64, of Marianna went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Shands Hospital, University of Florida, in Gainesville after a courageous battle with cancer. Peggy was born in Selma, AL to the Rev A.B. and Jessie Green. Green's ministry led the family to Cypress, FL in the early 1960s. Peggy was a graduate of Marianna High School, and worked with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities where she retired in January 2007. She was an active member of the Marianna First United Methodist Church where she taught in the nursery for 30 years and was a member of the Chancel Choir for 45 years. She was also a member of the No Easy Answers Sunday School Class. The "Songster's" a retiree singing group from the church was named by Peggy. She was a perfect example of what a wife and mother should be in life. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Benny Green. Survivors include her loving and faithful husband, Bobby Hughes, Sr.; one son, Bobby Hughes, Jr. of Montgomery; three daughters Angie Hughes of Tallahassee, Regena Matthews and husband, Nicholas of Greenwood, Alanna Hughes-Poole and husband, Roger of Crawfordville; three brothers, Terrill Green of Gulf Shores, Donald Green of Saraland, AL., Clayton Green of DeFuniak Springs, FL; one sister, Louise Crochran of Wilmer, AL.; four grandchildren, Justen Matthews, Faith Kreiser, Micah Kreiser, and Denita Matthews. Peggy was very blessed to have a second family of brothers and sisters-in-law. The funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday October 4, at Marianna First United Methodist Church with Dr. Bob McKibben and Rev. Bob Calvert and Dave Barkalow officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marianna First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir or the First United Methodist Church.
