Ollie Mae Neel

Ollie Mae Mooneyham Neel passed away at home on Friday, January 8, 2016. She was born on May 13, 1928 to Lump and Callie Gregg Mooneyham and had six siblings. She was married to Millard F. (Sonnie) Neel for fifty-seven years until his passing in 2001. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Ruth Neel Hicks, three brothers, Clyde, Bobby and Royce Mooneyham and one sister, Erma Jean Alford.

Surviving family members include a son, Millard Dale Neel and his wife Shirley, of Sneads, Florida, a daughter, Belva Neel Free, of Marianna, Florida, four granddaughters, Robbyn Hicks Whitlock, Tallahassee, Florida, Melanie Neel Hall and husband Gary, Grand Ridge, Florida, Greer Hicks Blanton and husband Travis, Tallahassee, Florida, Melinda (Lindy) Carpenter and husband Clay, Grand Ridge, Florida. Mrs. Neel enjoyed six great grandchildren, Leigh Anna and Lauren Hall, Alexis and Cierra Whitlock and Kai and Silas Blanton. She leaves behind one son-in-law, Delbert (Del) Hicks and wife Linda. Extended family members are two sisters, Virgie Stephens, St. Cloud, Florida and Joyce Wilson, Tallassee, Alabama, two sisters-in-law, Alene Mooneyham and LaDon Mooneyham, and a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Douglas and Mary Lena Neel.

She retired from the Florida State Hospital where many co-workers became lifelong friends. In addition to being an avid reader, gifted seamstress and an extremely knowledgeable Bible scholar, she taught Sunday School for over fifty years. In 2004, in recognition of her inspired teaching of God's word, Mrs. Neel was awarded the Billie Davis Certificate for Excellence in Christian Education by The General Council of the Assemblies of God, Springfield, Missouri and Welcome Assembly of God Church of which she was member. She was a Christian who lived a life of faith and the memory of her positive influence will remain in the hearts of many for years to come.

Funeral services for Ollie Mae Neel will be at 2 p.m., Monday, January 11, 2016 at Welcome Assembly of God Church with Dr. Thomas Batts, Revs. Jack Howell, Charles Jackson & Robert Johns officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the service. Visitation will end promptly at 1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the building fund of Welcome Church, 6784 Messer Road, Grand Ridge, Florida, 32442.
