Neva Jean Basford Jones, 75, of Tallahassee, formerly of Jackson and Leon Counties, went home to the Lord on Thursday, April 20, 2023.
Neva graduated from Grand Ridge High School and spent many years as a resident of Marianna before moving to Tallahassee. She was a registered nurse and received her master's from her beloved Florida State University. Her true passion in life was caring for the elderly. She was known to have a heavy foot when driving and was even once ticketed by her husband in an attempt to slow her down. She never met a dog she didn’t love and preferred one snuggled against her constantly. In her golden years, she was dearly loved by her memory care facility staff and was known as the “spunky” one. She had a penchant for naps, Sonny’s barbecue and Folgers coffee. She relished her role as MeMa and constantly bragged about her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Saxton “Randall” Jones; mom, Susie Mae Tyus; dads, Leon Martin Basford and George Ryals Tyus. She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Dana Marie Garber (Dr. Lance Garber) of Oklahoma City; one son, Randy Todd Jones of Panama City;
one brother, George Michael Tyus; one sister, Gloria Gwendolyn Basford Conner; three grandchildren, Saxton Randall Jones II, Landen Garber, and Luke Garber.
Funeral Services will be 10AM Friday, April 28, 2023, at James & Sikes Funeral Home
Maddox Chapel in Marianna with Reverend Genoa Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 until the time of service at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.
