Nettie "Murl" Woods Putnam, age 91, a longtime resident of Marianna, FL died Monday, April 22, 2019.
Born April 11, 1928 in Tallahassee, she lived a full life in the service of Christ. She dedicated her life to helping others in her community and in helping many youths reach their potential that might otherwise have gone astray.
She is preceded by her first husband, Edward J Woods. Together they were responsible for building churches in Port St Joe, Gulf Breeze, Marianna, and Macon, GA just to name a few.
She dedicated her life to her church and her extended family. She was known as "Aunt Murl" to many as she informally adopted almost a dozen youth, guiding them to a better outcome in life. She was an active member of the Marianna First United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She eventually moved from Marianna back to Macon, GA to be closer to family.
After Ed's passing, she married Marion L. Putnam, now deceased, and moved back to Marianna where she lived ever since.
She is survived by friends and family including Nell Thomas, a close friend and companion; her niece Leralene Spillers Dumas; her nephew, Derrell Spillers; her sister in law, JoAnn Woods Thompson and many great and grand nieces and nephews.
She will be laid to rest on May 8, 2019 at 1:00 PM (EST) at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Macon, GA with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
In Honor of her faith she has asked that donations be made in her honor to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
