James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Nancy T. Moreira of Marianna, Florida passed away on June 5, 2014 . She was born February 28,1941 in Manatee, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents Wesley and Rosa Lee Thurmond, as well as her step father William Cooper and two brothers, Cleve and Danny Thurmond. Nancy is survived by her son the Reverend Edmundo N. Moreira Jr., his wife Hilarie and their five children, Katherine Jane, Benjamin Joseph, Nathaniel Isaac, Mathias Aaron, and Margaret Rose, of Oakwood Ohio. She is also survived by her much loved brother James E. (Bud) Thurmond and his wife Helen of Sarasota, Fl and a sister-in-law, Penny Cooper of Bradenton, Florida. Nancy also leaves behind an! extended family and friends in both America and Brazil. Nancy was a graduate of Manatee High School, Belhaven College and Tulane University where she earned a Masters degree in Social Work. Later she did Doctoral work at Florida State University. Nancy was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the owner of Family Outreach Services. She provided counseling services for patients and family of patients with HIV/AIDS as well as many other individual and family issues. Nancy was also a State of Florida retiree. Nancy served as a Missionary first for the Presbyterian Church and later for Wycliffe Bible Translators spending a total of 15 years in Brazil where she met and married the Reverend Edmundo N. Moreira Sr.. She was fluent in Brazilian Portuguese. In her retirement she was a member of both Patriot Guard Riders and Warrior Watch Riders and enjoyed motorcycling with her friend of 30 years and former husband Walter K. Johnson of Marianna, Fl. Nancy was also blessed by theĀ  friendship of Ruth Mary Weston of North Carolina. Her life was always one of service and dedication to assisting others. Nancy and her family would like to thank Dr. H. Joe Gay and the staff of Chipola Medical Services for the excellent and compassionate care she received over the years. The family would also like to express appreciation for the excellent care provided by Gentiva Hospice. Nancy will be laid to rest in the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens of Marianna, Florida following a private ceremony. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
