Mertie "M.J." Lipford, 79, of Marianna died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Lipford was born March 27, 1937 to the late Mertie John and Estelle Phillips Lipford. He was a native and lifelong resident of Marianna, joined the U.S. Army where he served in Germany and obtained the rank of Sergeant. M.J. married his wife, Nella Perkins Lipford on March 28, 1966. He worked at Lehigh Furniture Company, helped build Interstate 10, was a Tree Surgeon and worked more than 30 years for Bob Pforte Quality Services.
Mr. Lipford was preceded in death by his wife, Nella Perkins Lipford. He is survived by one daughter, Victoria Lipford of Marianna; one brother, Lewis Lipford and wife, Barbara of Lee, MA; one sister, Sarah Dekle of Greenwood and one grandson, Micheal John Lipford-Hall.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016 at James & Sikes Maddox with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Bascom with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends from 5p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2016 at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel.
