Mary Sybil Sims, 87, of Marianna died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at Jackson Hospital. A native and life long resident of Jackson County, Mrs. Sims was the former owner and operator of Sims Grocery and Market, a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served as a primary teacher, also served as President of the Relief Society and Counselor. She was the first woman in Jackson County to serve as a jurist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne A. "Ted" Sims; a son, William Frank Sims and her parents, William Isaac and Mary Alyfair Peacock Howard. Survivors include, a son, Wayne A. Sims,Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Donna Gail Sims of Marianna; a granddaughter, Melanie Sims Maxham and husband Robert of San Antonio; a great grandson, William Pierce Maxham of San Antonio; a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am, Friday, May 25, 2007 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Bishop Gary Hansen officiating, burial will follow at Sink Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. Flowers will be accepted, if desired contribution may be made to your favorite charity, the American Diabetes Association.
