James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Martha Walker, long time resident of Marianna, FL passed away to heaven on September 20, 2013. Martha was born in Marianna on the afternoon of July 31, 1915, in the family home across the street from the Methodist Church. She was the youngest of seven children. After her father's death in 1918, the family relocated to what has remained the family home on Davis Street. In 1935 she met Howard Walker who was manager of Cristo 5 and Dime Store and they were married six months later. They lived in Chipley, Moultrie, and Panama City. She worked for Wainright Shipyard in Panama City during the war years while Howard was employed at Tyndall Air Force Base. After Howard's death in 1948, Martha and their daughter, Linda, moved back home to Marianna where she lived until relocating to Tallahassee to be closer to Linda and her family. She worked at the family business, Chalker's Bookkeeping Services, until her retirement. She recently celebrated her 98th birthday with 30 family members at her daughter's home in Tallahassee. Martha was a founding member of the Marianna Pilot Club. She enjoyed playing Bridge and hosted many Bridge parties in her home. She loved plants and flowers and could make anything grow and bloom. Her yard was a source of pride. Martha was also quite an artist with ceramics, oils, and needlework. Her creative flair was also reflected in her home, rearranging her furniture on a regular basis. She enjoyed traveling and took trips to Europe, the Bahamas, and Britain with family and friends as well as many trips within the USA. She was a long standing active member of the First Baptist Church in Marianna where she taught Sunday School and was a founding member of the JOY club. Her faith was a central part of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents Ellis Fairbanks Davis and Amanda Neel White Davis; husband Howard Walker; four brothers Ellis Davis (Marion), Talaferro Davis (Dorothy), Wallace Davis (Coral), Emmett Davie (Mamie), and two sisters Myrtle (Daughter) Chalker (Chalk), and Pattie Dudley (Bill). She is survived by her daughter Linda Walker Enfinger; son in-law Wilson Enfinger; grandchildren Patrick Enfinger, Mary-Margaret Enfinger, Tracie Enfinger, and Becky Harrison and one great grandchild Zachary Enfinger (her little doll), as well as nieces and nephews including LaVada Chalker, Nonnie Teague, Patricia Billings, and Martha Holt. Funeral services will be 11:00a.m. CST Monday, September 23, 2013 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Dr. Mark Long officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. Family will receive friends at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel one hour prior to service.
