Martha Bevis, 96 of Lovedale died Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Marianna Health and Rehab. Martha selflessly gave of her time to her grandsons and family. After the death of her husband and the birth of William, she joined her daughter and son-in-law as they moved from post to post as an army family. She provided a steady support system for her family and fufilled a life long dream of traveling. She was able to visit many different areas of the United States, Europe and Mexico. She served the Lord in different ministries no matter where military travels led the family. At the age of 80, she took part in a mission trip to Montana where she helped the children with arts and crafts.
Whether a week long vacation or a trip to the movie theater, she loved a good adventure. Her spirited stories of rural life during the Great Depression and World War II will live forever in our hearts.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Earl (Bud) Bevis; four brothers and two sisters. Her survivors include her daughter, Lois Layton and husband, Dan of Bascom; Beloved grandsons, Alexander Layton and fiance', Macy Zicker of Tallahassee; William Layton of Bascom and Colton Layton of Bascom.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Lovedale Baptist Church with Pastor Thomas Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Lovedale Baptist Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
