She was a native of Decatur County, GA, and graduated from Chattahoochee High School and the Florida State College for Women (FSU) in 1941. She retired from the Jackson County School System as a third grade teacher with 27 years at F.M. Golson Elementary School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 62 years, a longtime member of the Marianna Woman's Club, and the Marianna Garden Club, Rose Circle. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar NeSmith; her husband, English L. Tipton; an infant son, Fred Lee Tipton; a sister, Juanita Gleason; and a brother, Robert Clyde NeSmith. She is survived by two sisters, Geneva NeSmith Herring and Ethel NeSmith Peacock; nieces Suzanne Emmanuel and husband Bob, Marjorie Ann McNeil, and Mary Gray Free and husband Mitch; nephews Robert Clyde NeSmith, Jr.; Charles H. Tipton and wife Dianne, and great nephew Nathan Tipton; Bill Peacock and wife Marilyn; Jay Herring; and a host of other nieces and nephews, and special care giver, Rachel Key. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 7, at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
