Malinda F. Melvin, 70, of Marianna died Friday, September 23, 2006 at Jackson Hospital in Marianna. She was born in Defuniak Springs, and was raised in Ponce de Leon before moving to Jackson County more than 50 years ago. She was retired from Jackson County School System as a paraprofessional at Sunland and a longtime member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Earnest F. Melvin in 2004, one daughter, Patricia Perkins. Survivors include two sons, Willie E. Melvin and wife Michelle of Marianna, Lee Melvin and friend Carl Williams of Bradenton; five brothers, J C, Homer, Lloyd & Jimmie Floyd all of Ponce de Leon, Edward Floyd of Milton; five sisters, Catherine Chason of Marianna, Ann Hunt of Florala, Al., Sarah Barton of Westville, Billie Jo Manning of Ponce de Leon, Lucy Truett of Birmingham; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Rocky Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Jerome Harbert & Luther Prumprey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel. Flowers will be accepted or those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Rocky Creek Baptist Church.
