Macario Abad

Macario Argosino Abad, Jr., MD, "Doc Mac," 79, joined Our Creator on Saturday, May 21, 2016 in Jackson Hospital, Marianna, Florida.

Macario was born in Manila, Philippines on January 24, 1937 and resided in Jackson County, Florida for 22 years. He started his elementary and high school education at San Beda College Manila, continued his Premedical College Degree in University of the Philippines - Diliman, subsequently finishing as an Optometrist at De Ocampo College, and graduated as Doctor of Medicine at Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation, Pangasinan.

He was a member of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines and obtained the highest distinction of Eagle Scout in 1954, Ave Maria Religious Award Recipient; Alpha Phi Omega as the Grand Chancellor 1956, Eta Chapter (U.P. Diliman); and one of the founding brods of Beta Sigma Fraternity at Far Eastern University - Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Doc Mac dedicated 22 years of service in the Department of Corrections initially working at North Florida Reception Medical Center in Lake Butler, Florida for 13 years. Afterwards, he was a Clinical Associate at Holmes Correctional Institution in Bonifay, Florida and at Jackson Correctional Institution in Malone, Florida. He worked at the Department of Health in Marianna, Florida. He humbly performed dedicated and faithful service as a volunteer medical clinician at Faith Health Clinic from 1998 to 2012.

His main passion as a sabungero was fulfilled upon establishing his own Macabad Gamefarm and co-owning Casablanca Gamefarm. He won the 7-cock One-on-One Derby in the Philippines, 7-cock Florida Championship at Birds of the Feather Game Club in Louisiana, undefeated in 1992, and joined numerous competitions in the Philippines and the U.S. He was also an avid breeder of both thoroughbred race horses and show quality dogs. He was one the proud owners of SALBAD Bulldogs, SALBAD Boxers, and vom Macabad German Shepherds.

He was preceded in death by his fathers, Macario A. Abad and Aurencio Laya, and his mother, Elvira S. Abad-Laya.

Survivors from his siblings include Antonio Abad and his wife Leticia, from Connecticut, Eduardo Abad, CPA and his wife Charito, Elma Pelsang, MD and her husband Richard, both couples from California; from his first marriage to Lucila Averion Abad, RPh, mother to four children: Lucilita (Lilith) Abad-Salvador, MD and her husband Expedito Salvador, MD, Lourdes (Lally) Mosley, MD and her husband Joseph Mosley, RT(R), Macario (Sonny) Abad, Jr II, MD and his wife, Ma. Gigi Abad, MD, all of Tallahassee, FL, and Macario (Cary) Abad IV, PT and his wife, Rosario Abad, MHA, of Jacksonville, FL; from his second marriage to Eden Cerdan Abad, MD, mother to two children: Aurencio (Al) Abad, MD and his wife Rochelle Abad, MD and his daughter, Edelvira (Lyra) Abad, MD, all of Marianna, FL. He had nine loving grandchildren: namely Joella, Lauren, Martin, Luis, Abby, Matthew, Pia, Anton, and Justin.

Funeral Mass will be 10 AM CST, Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Marianna with Father James Thoyalil, V.C. reciting. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family shall receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 PM, CST, Monday, May 30, 2016 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Marianna, Florida.
