James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Raymond Lindsay Roach of Grand Ridge died Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at home. He was 69. Born in Conway, South Carolina, Mr. Roach had lived in Jackson County for the past 41 years where he worked as a counselor at Chipola College and in the Jackson County School District. He was actively involved in the Florida Association of Community Colleges for many years, and enjoyed weekly golf tournaments with the Southeast Seniors Golf Association and weekly games with his friends. He hit more fairways than trees by far and from time to time could brag of a single digit handicap, though it had crept back up to 10. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Marianna where he had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Roach embraced life on his wife's family farm and pointed out that his red neck was honestly earned on the back of a tractor. He graduated from the University of South Carolina and was a proud Gamecock fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Smith Roach and Herman Roach, and his brother, Lloyd Roach. Survivors include his wife, of 46 years, Nell Harrison Roach; children, Emily Roach and husband, Ernest Deck of Tallahassee, Raymond Roach Jr. of Birmingham, Stephen Roach and wife, Casey of Grand Ridge, and Jennifer Haveard and husband, Cory of Tallahassee; five grandchildren, the loves of his life, Benjamin Roach, Reagan Roach and Samuel Roach, Ryleigh Haveard, and Zoe Deck; brothers, Randolph Roach of Franklin, KY., and Ronnie Roach of Mebane, NC. Funeral services will be Friday, November 14, 2014 at 10 o'clock in the morning at First Baptist Church of Marianna with Dr. Mark Long officiating. Interment will follow at Wester Cemetery on Sandridge Church Road in Grand Ridge with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
