Leon Evelyn Baldwin

October 13, 1921 — July 30, 2016

Leon Evelyn Hopson Baldwin, 94, of Marianna, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, July 30, 2016. She was born October 13, 1921 in Russellville, Arkansas.  In 1926 her family moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma, where she lived for 75 years.  In 2001, she and her husband, Roy, moved to Marianna, Florida to be near their children.  She was a member of First Assembly of God in Marianna.

She attended Pershing Elementary, West Jr. High and graduated from Central High School  in 1939. She attended the Hartford, Arkansas Music School.  From 1940-46, she worked as secretary for the Colonel of the Government Quartermaster Corp. Office at Camp Gruber Army Base.  When the base was closed after the war, she took the position of Secretary to the owner of the City Chevrolet Company of Muskogee.

Leon loved to sing and was a member of a ladies quartet and later a trio with her sisters.  They performed at many church functions and state singing conventions.  Along side her husband, she was active in ministry in First Assembly her whole adult life in Muskogee and served as church secretary for 20 years.  Her joy in life was loving Jesus and loving her family. She was an encourager and a prayer warrior.

She is preceded in death by her husband, of 67 years, Roy Baldwin in 2015;  her parents, Richard Earl and Ethel Hopson;  sisters,  Goldie Kilgore,  Viva Kilgore, Reba Todd,  Reva Hopson and Phyllis McDaris;  brothers, Robert Hopson and James Connie Hopson.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Potter and husband, Stephen;  her son, David Baldwin and wife, Susan all of Marianna; three grandaughters, Stacia Spencer and husband, Vince of Chipley, FL., Alecia Corbin and husband, Michael of Marianna,  Jennifer Baldwin of Atlanta Georgia; ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2016 at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel with Reverends Stephen Potter & Vince Spencer officiating. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Homes Maddox Chapel directing.
