James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel 4278 Lafayette Street Marianna, Florida 32446 850.482.2332 Lela Mae Wright Sims, 103, of the Rocky Creek Community passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Courtyard by the Millpond. Born July 10, 1911 to Jessie and Joanna Wright of Chipley, she had 11 brothers and sisters. She grew up in Chipley until 1930 when she married the love of her life, Alton Sims of Marianna. Mrs. Sims was a homemaker and longtime Sunday School Teacher at Rocky Creek Baptist Church, where she enjoyed teaching children the lessons and love of the Bible. She was the oldest member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church where she loved to attend services and worship her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In addition to attending church, Mrs. Sims enjoyed fishing, quilting, making pillows for her grandchildren, putting jigsaw puzzles together, and she was accomplished at word search and cross word puzzles. Known by many names - Mama, Granny, Little Granny, and Mae Mae, there was very few things Mrs. Sims did not like, but at the top of the list was bad weather. The storms have now all past in her life, and only the rays of God's light shine upon her now. Mae was preceded in death by her husband of almost 65 years, Alton Sims, her parents and 11 siblings, one son-in-law, Odell Folsom, and one daughter-in-law Regina Sims. She is survived by her 5 children, Burdette Sims and wife Sara, Dolores Folsom, Helen Mercer and husband Jack, Thelma White and husband Tommy and Billy Sims. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Janice Wood, Danny Sims, Pam Cvitkovich, Sandra Mooneyham, Larry Folsom, Kenny Folsom, Steven Mercer, David Mercer, Sabrina Berentsen, Thomas White, Terry Poole, Tina Smelley, Tasha Henderson, Stacey Russell, and Darren Sims. Mrs. Sims also had 33 great grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren and a dear special friend, Lawanda Hart. Funeral services will be at 11am, Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Rocky Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Luther Pumphrey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m., one hour prior to services at the church.
