James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Kenneth W. Edwards, son of the late Walter and Eva Darby Edwards, passed away at South East Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama, on Thursday, September 6, 2012 , after a lengthy illness. A retired vocational teacher at the Masters level, he met his wife, Ginnie Wolking in extension Universty of West Florida courses they each undertook to earn their teachers certification. He later earned a Masters level degree as well. He was born July 6, 1929 and was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Gene Edwards , an infant granddaughter, and two sister-in-laws; Margaret Edwards and LaNita Edwards. He used skills he aquired since early years to teach wood working, upholstery, electrical and electronic repair in various institutions in the area. Friends and students admired his wide range of skills as well as his generous and giving nature. Ken enjoyed the outdoors and gardening, which included his blueberry bushes, and his love of animals. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 33 years, Ginnie Wolking; two sons, Larry Edwards and wife, Nora of Lancaster, CA. and Steven Edwards and wife Betty of Sneads; and daughter Donna and husband, Wayne Hicks of Nashville, GA. He also left three brothers; Glenn Edwards and wife Becky, Guy and wife Faye, and Bobby all of Sneads; nine grandchildren, Ken Hunter, Clay Hunter and wife Andi, Mandy Burns and husband Lee, Angelia Edwards and husband Gary, Kelly Silcox, Megan Edwards and Aaliyah Hicks; nine great-grandchildren Austin, Braden and Coben Hunter, Trevor Carpenter and Kayden Silcox, Garrett Burns, Mei-Lie Lawson, Natalie and Alaina Edwards, and one great-great-grandchild, Jonathan Lawson. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Sneads First United Methodist Church with burial following in Pope Cemetery. James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
