James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Julia Mae Yates Mathis, 83, of Malone died Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. A native of Houston County, Alabama, Mrs. Mathis had resided in Malone for many years. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she served in the Choir and the WMU. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James G. Mathis, her parents, Charlie and Marentha Lewis Yates; one sister, Grace Bennett; two brothers, Lonnie and Bill Yates. Survivors include one son, Kenneth Allen Mathis and wife, Mary, of Dothan; four daughters, Seretha Askew and husband, Larry, of Grangerburg, AL., Freida Fowler and husband, Jimmy, of Spring, TX., Myra Hutto and husband, Patrick of Marianna, Wanda Brown and husband, Randy of New Orleans, LA,; eight grandchildren, Ashley Granger and wife, Georgia of Marianna, Allen Mathis and wife, Tammy of Campbellton, Michael Askew and wife, Amy, of Grangerburg, AL., Judson Mathis of Del Rio, TX., Christy Shores and husband, Cameron of Marianna, Randall Mathis and wife, Crystal of Pensacola, Cynthia Brooks and husband, Allen, of Altha, Kyle Mathis of Malone; great-grandchildren, Maddyson and Ashtyn Granger, Ryan and Riley Mathis, Hollie and Shelby Askew, Noah and Weston Shores, Mason Brooks; two sisters, Merle Condray of Dothan, AL, Christine Smith and husband Pete of Dothan; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10 am Friday, September 2, 2011 at Friendship Baptist Church with Ronald Fowler and Rev. Timothy Davis officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Maddox Chapel.
