Johnnie Nathaniel Calloway

October 2, 1936 — August 19, 2016

Johnnie Nathaniel Calloway, 79, died peacefully on August 19, 2016 at his residence in Malone, FL.

Johnnie was born at home on October 2, 1936 in the Malone area. He was raised on a small farm, where as a child he played hard; but when he was old enough, he worked hard to help take care of his mother, father, brothers, and sisters. When he was old enough to leave home, he moved to Panama City to work for a short time at a gas station. Then, he moved back to Jackson County to help his father on the farm and also worked with Ryan's Furniture Company in Marianna. During this time, he married the love of his life, Inez Conrad.

A few years later, he went to work at the airbase in Marianna at "the boat factory" painting the boats with jelco. He also worked for several farms around this area, as well as his own farm. In his later years, when his health prevented him from farming, two of his sons and a grandson joined his life-long dream on what is now known as Calloway Farms. He was still a great influence, sharing his experience and knowledge of farming and taking care of land and crops with his boys.

Johnnie was always willing to share his stories and garden, taking great joy in caring for his family, friends, and neighbors. He will be sorely missed by all of them. He is now resting in peace for all of his hard labor on this earth.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Ollie B. Calloway; brother Cecil Calloway, and sisters Margie Hall and Betty Oliver.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Inez Calloway; son Ronnie Calloway and wife, Debbie of Bascom; daughter Kaye Green and husband, Allen of Greenwood; daughter Pam Bridges and husband, Les of Texas; daughter Lori Burke and husband, Bob of Marianna; son Scott Calloway and wife, Sharon of Malone; son Andy Calloway and wife, Robin of Malone; son Jason Calloway and wife, Renee of Bascom; and sister Faye Wood and husband Lynn. He was also survived by 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2016 at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Gary French & Ed Ham officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Baptist Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. Serving as pallbearers will be Johnnie's grandsons. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Friendship Baptist Church.
