John Lee Stewart

John Lee Stewart, 69, died Thursday, Aug. 13, in the Gainesville, FL VA Hospital after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Born in rural Grady County Georgia, John graduated from Cairo, Georgia High School. He served two enlistments in the United States Navy, his last two years aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Lexington. He made Marianna his home in 1966, when he began a more than 20-year career with J. D. Swearingen Equipment Co. He loved football and was an avid Booster Club supporter of the Marianna Bulldogs for many years. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, Cliff and Fannie Stewart of Cairo, Ga., an infant daughter in 1972, two brothers, Arthur Stewart and Billy Stewart of Cairo, GA, and a sister, Sarah Courtney, also of Cairo, GA. He is survived by a daughter, Tracy Lee Stewart, Austin, TX, and a daughter and son, Gale Williams and Lee Windsor, both of Marianna, FL. He is survived by four grandchildren, Jackson, Max and Bennett Dampier of Austin, TX, and Titus Williams of Marianna, FL. He is also survived by one sister, Betty Maxwell of Cairo, GA, and three brothers, Bruce Stewart, of Blairsville, GA, Bob Stewart of Cairo and Pete Stewart of Ochlocknee, Ga, along with a host of nieces and nephews, extended family, and many, many dear friends. A family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to the American Cancer Society or your local Hospice.
