John C. Kirkland, a proud veteran of the Army, passed away of September 3, 2021 of natural causes.
The son of Carl O. Kirkland and Minnie Fincher, John grew up in Fairmont, SC. He was born on March 31, 1931.
At the age of 19, John enlisted in the Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. As part of this service, he served two terms each both in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He proudly served 20 years before his retirement. He received two Army Commendation Medals and numerous certificates for outstanding meritorious service.
John is survived by Jacquelyn Kirkland, his loving wife of 68 years; his daughter Thada Kay Rehberg (Rayburn) and son Jonathan Kirkland (Patsy); his 5 grandchildren Christopher Rehberg (Miranda), Jennifer Kirkland, Timothy Rehberg (Brigitte), Kelly Raymond (Kim), and Tyler Kirkland (Terri); 3 great-grandchildren Kelsey Rehberg, Tristan Rehberg, and Jackson Raymond; his four siblings Frances Childress, Lillie Henderson, James Harrison Kirkland, and Betty Jean Cook, all of South Carolina; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2pm Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Mike Daniels officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends friends one hour prior to the service at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.
