John Wallace Grant, 50, died Sunday, April 25, 2010 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Bascom. He was born in Jackson County, attended school at Malone High School where he played basketball. His graduating year of 1977, he was a part of one of many State Championships won by Malone. He played basketball at Chipola College from 1978-79. He then received a NCAA Division l basketball scholarship from University of South Florida, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Contractual Construction Engineering. He then became a Certified Florida General Contractor, and was the owner of John W. Grant Construction Company in Panama City. His last project locally was the ongoing current restoration of the old Bascom School. John was an active member of the Bascom United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees. He is preceded in death by his father, Wallace Grant. Survivors include his mother, Sarah A. Grant, his wife, Annette of Panama City; two sons, John Robert Grant of Miami, and Kane Bouchard of Panama City; one daughter, Margaret Grant of Panama City; one brother, Michael Grant (Louise) of Boca Raton; two sisters, Gwen Grant Williams (Mark) of Gainesville, and Mary Leigh Grant Dudley (William) of Newnan, GA; a special aunt, Ann Grant of Bascom. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Bascom United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Calvert officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 28 at Maddox Chapel.
