James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel 4278 Lafayette Street Marianna, Florida 32446 850-482-2332 JoAnne Bevis Anderson , age 77, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at home in Marianna. She was a wonderful loving wife of 53 years, mother and grandmother. She was born on June 19, 1933 in Attapulgus, Georgia and grew up in Sneads, Florida. She graduated from Sneads High School in 1951 and completed Massey Business School. Early on she was the secretary to Sheriff Ernest Barnes, Sheriff Clyde Barnes, and Sheriff Roy Robinson in Marianna. JoAnne married Kenneth B. Anderson on August 10, 1957 and lived in Marianna and Pensacola where she worked for the Florida Highway Patrol in both cities. In 1962 they moved to Tallahassee, Florida where she was employed by the Florida Department of Public Safety until the birth of her daughter, Julie Anne Anderson in 1968. For many years, JoAnne served as the Page Mother for the Florida Senate and annually enjoyed directing weekly groups of youth from all over the state in a memorable and educational week of service in the Senate. She maintained contact with many students over the years that have become some of Florida's current leaders and was always affectionately known as Ms. "A". JoAnne was always a dedicated Gator football fan for over 40 years attending all home and many away games with dear friends Charles, Peggy and Amber Brown. One of the greatest joys for she and Kenneth was the birth of their granddaughter, Ellory Lucianne Fuqua, in 1999. They had the pleasure of keeping Ellory in their home during workdays until she started nursery school. JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie Lee and Johnnie Dykes Bevis, and a brother, Jimmy Lee Bevis, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth B. Anderson, and her daughter Julie Anderson Fuqua and son-in-law Jonathan Fuqua, and granddaughter Ellory Fuqua. She is also survived by many Dykes and Bevis cousins that she retained close ties with over the years. A funeral service will be Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 2 p.m. (central time) at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel with Rev. David Barkalow officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Methodist Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will recieve friends Thursday, July 22, at 1 p.m. (central time), one hour prior to service time at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel.
