Joann Zanatta Moneyham

March 13, 1938 — December 11, 2023

Joann Zanatta Goodson Moneyham, 85, of Sneads, passed away on December 11, 2023.

She was born on March 13, 1938 the eleventh child of Otis Ashmore and Shula Goodson.

She loved her children with all her heart. She lost her father when she was five years old, so her childhood was very difficult. She wanted to provide for her children what she didn’t have and let them enjoy their childhood events like Christmas, birthdays, tooth fairy and much more. She made sure that everything was shared equally no matter if each had only a bite of something (including herself). She created the tradition that on our birthday, she would bake the cake we chose, cook the meal we wanted and we would receive one gift. We have good memories of our childhood because of her love and sacrifices. Thanks Mom for all the love and things you did for us.

She thoroughly enjoyed playing Canasta, while drinking her Dr. Pepper, with her friends and family (Carolyn, Shirley, Vera, and Betty) every time they could get together for an all-day card playing and eating adventure. Later she had sitters and she taught them how to play so they could spend the day playing with her.

We gave Mom flowers for special occasions in the past, but within the last couple of years, she had told us that she wanted her flowers now while she could enjoy them. So we started giving her “Just Because” flowers and she seemed to enjoy them. Her nieces, Betty and Carol also sent "Just Because" flowers, her last bouquet being delivered during her most recent hospital stay. She often received cards from her niece Carol, her friend Shirley, and other friends letting her know just how loved she was.

She is predeceased by her parents and all ten of her siblings. She was also predeceased by the father of her children, Alton Royce Moneyham, Sr.

She is survived by her three children Valerie, Alton (Susan), and La Rhonda. She grew up with her cousin, Carolyn Pittman that she loved dearly and considered Carolyn more her sister than a cousin. She is also survived by several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank Vitas Hospice for all the help and care that was given to our mom at the end of her life.

She will be laid to rest in Welcome Church Assembly of God Cemetery in Dellwood, Florida Wednesday, December 13, 2023 with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
